Spotlight: Health & Safety front and centre for Lightsource bp Operations and Maintenance

Safety is a core value at Lightsource bp – it’s front and centre in everything we do. Today, we’re shining a spotlight on what this means for our Operations and Maintenance (O&M) business and the clients we work with.

Lightsource bp’s O&M team offers comprehensive third-party services, covering all aspects of solar and storage operations and maintenance for asset owners across the UK. Our team prioritises health, safety, and environmental (HSE) considerations across all of these activities.

We pride ourselves on integrating with and exceeding the safety standards set by our clients when we take on assets, and we firmly believe that a strong approach to HSE is a significant differentiator for our services. Prioritising HSE leads to fewer incidents, which leads to higher availability and better performance, optimising sites and maximising returns, while decreasing risk, and most importantly keeping everyone safe.

A key aspect of our O&M team’s commitment to HSE is our program dedicated to enhancing safety through data driven interventions and collaborative learning with a deeper focus in 2024 on the following themes:

• Electrical safety
• Manual handling
• Working at height
• Safe driving.

Working in partnership with O&M, the Lightsource bp HSE team is implementing improvements to reduce these risks. Alongside our continuous improvements to maintain the highest HSE standards, we ensure that a strong culture of safety remains at the core of our operations, and this is further supported through culture-based safety training delivered to both leaders and safety coaches across the O&M team. We also have a mental health first aid program, with over 12 qualified mental health first aiders, to ensure psychological health and safety across our O&M team.
