Lightsource bp’s first solar project in Poland reaches Commercial Operation
Lightsource bp marks a milestone in Poland with the 40MW Kotuń project reaching Commercial Operation.
Since setting up in Poland late 2020, Lightsource bp has made significant strides towards progressing a 3.2GW project pipeline and growing a strong presence across the country. Now, with over an established team of over 30 professionals, Lightsource bp continues to further its ambition to become an established renewable energy company in Poland.
The Kotuń solar project reaching Commercial Operation marks the start of a long-term Power Purchase Agreement between Microsoft and Lightsource bp inked in September last year for the 40MWac solar project. This drives further decarbonisation of the Polish grid and supports Microsoft’s goal of achieving 100% renewable energy supply by 2025.
With one of the most carbon-intensive power grids in the EU, renewable energy in Poland plays an essential role in driving down greenhouse gas emissions in the region.
Michał Głowacki, Country Head for Lightsource bp in Poland commented: “Solar energy has a huge role to play in Poland’s energy transition and the solar projects we are developing are part of this historic transformation. The Kotuń solar farm reaching Commercial Operation is our first significant contribution to the country’s decarbonisation targets.”
