Juan Luis Cantón, appointed new Country Head of Lightsource bp in Spain

Global solar leader, Lightsource bp, announces the appointment of Juan Luis Cantón as the company’s new Country Head in Spain. Cantón joins the company after more than 20 years of experience in the renewable industry and will continue to progress Lightsource bp’s growth ambitions in the country. The company recently announced the progress of 19 solar projects across Spain, which would realise local investment of around €1.2 billion.

Juan Luis Cantón will take over from current Country Head Fernando Roger, who was instrumental in the set up of Lightsource bp’s Spanish operations, leading the team from start-up to an established gigawatt-scale pipeline. Fernando, a Lightsource bp veteran, having served 10 years with the company will now take a step up into a regional role as Director of Southern Europe.

Kareen Boutonnat, CEO of EMEA & APAC for Lightsource bp said: “We’re really excited to welcome Juan Luis Cantón to the team. He brings with him significant development experience that will be valuable as we continue to drive the momentum of Lightsource bp’s growth across Spain. I would also like to thank Fernando Roger for his incredible efforts and dedication in growing our business in Spain and we wish him all the success in his new role.”

Fernando Roger, Director of Development for Southern Europe at Lightsource bp said: “The appointment of Juan Luis Cantón demonstrates how much we have grown and evolved over these last years both in terms of team size and results. This role gives Juan Luis a great opportunity to drive our success forward, establishing Lightsource bp as a clear leader across the Spanish energy market.”

Juan Luis Canton added: “I appreciate the trust Lightsource bp has placed in me, I am very excited to be able to contribute to the expansion of the company in Spain, and at the same time to collaborate with a team of professionals who appreciate for the work they have done so far and for the motivation they show in continuing to accelerate the decarbonization of our planet.”

Since entering the Spanish market Lightsource bp has grown exponentially to reach 400MW of built and connected solar in the last two years. The Spanish team has 3GW of projects in different stages of development, including 1,620MW that has recently received environmental authorization and will be launched by 2025.
